My name is Asahal, a gift from my grandmother, Dorothy. Her mother, my great-grandmother, Rosalie, was not the most nurturing figure.
Asahal, the sister of my grandmother Dorothy's grandfather, stepped in to help raise her during the times when Rosalie was unable to fulfill her role as a mother.
Colonialism, smallpox, residential schools, substance abuse, and instances of abuse and neglect have all significantly affected my family.
The pain continues to resonate within us, yet each generation is working to break these cycles.
Today, I strive to do my best, just as those before me have done. I stand as a testament to our resilience and determination.
